
American Indian Festival of Words Writers Award – Brandon Hobson

Bestselling author Brandon Hobson will receive the 2025 American Indian Festival of Words Writers Award.
Hobson will speak about his life and works, and sign books. Copies of his work will be available for purchase, courtesy of Magic City Books. Book signing to follow the presentation.
Brandon Hobson is an assistant professor of creative writing at New Mexico State University and also teaches at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Hobson is the author of numerous books including the acclaimed novel The Removed and the National Book Award finalist Where the Dead Sit Talking. His first novel for young readers, The Storyteller was published in 2023.
The Cherokee National Youth Choir will perform traditional and contemporary songs in the Cherokee language. CDs will be available for purchase.
The purpose of the American Indian Writers Award is to give recognition to written contributions of outstanding American Indian authors, poets, journalists, film and stage scriptwriters. Inaugurated in 2001, it is the first and only award given by a public library to honor an American Indian writer. Consisting of a $10,000 cash prize, the award recognizes written contributions of outstanding American Indian authors, poets, journalists, and film and stage scriptwriters.

The purpose of the American Indian Writers Award is to give recognition to written contributions of outstanding American Indian authors, poets, journalists, film and stage scriptwriters. Inaugurated in 2001, it is the first and only award given by a public library to honor an American Indian writer. The award is given in odd-numbered years. Recipients receive a $10,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal trophy which is sponsored by the Maxine and Jack Zarrow Family Foundation and the Tulsa Library Trust.
