Chen Chen – In Person

Magic City Books, in partnership with Tulsa Artist Fellowship and Tulsa Glitterary, is excited to welcome poet Chen Chen for an in person reading at Magic City Books on Thursday June 2, 2022. This free event will take place in the Algonquin Room at Magic City Books and Chen Chen will read his work and be in conversation with fellow poet and Tulsa Artist Fellow, Steve Bellin-Oka.

When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities is Chen Chen’s award-winning debut that interrogates the fragile, inherited ways of approaching love and family from Asian American, immigrant, and queer perspectives.

Chen Chen’s second book of poetry, Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency, is forthcoming from BOA Editions and Bloodaxe Books (UK) this fall. His debut, When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities (BOA, 2017; Bloodaxe, 2019), was longlisted for the National Book Award and won the Thom Gunn Award, among other honors. Chen is also the author of four chapbooks and the forthcoming book of essays, In Cahoots with the Rabbit God (Noemi Press, 2023). His work appears in many publications, including Poem-a-Day and three editions of The Best American Poetry (2015, 2019, & 2021). He has received two Pushcart Prizes and fellowships from Kundiman, the National Endowment for the Arts, and United States Artists. He teaches at Brandeis University as the Jacob Ziskind Poet-in-Residence and serves on the poetry faculty for the low-residency MFA programs at New England College and Stonecoast.
