Isaac Butler

The Oklahoma Center for Humanities and Magic City Books invite you to join us in welcoming Isaac Butler, director, frequent contributor at “Slate” and The New Yorker and teacher of theatre history and performance for a free event on Thursday January 25. He will join The University of Tulsa’s Dr. Justin Rawlins for a conversation about method acting, in celebration of Rawlins’ new book Imagining the Method: Reception, Identity, and American Screen Performance. This event will be hosted at 101 Archer at 7:00 pm.
Magic City Books  will be selling copies of Imagining the Method as well as Butler’s book The Method at the event on January 25. You can purchase the books at Magic City or online as well.

Isaac Butler is the author of “The Method: How the 20th Century Learned to Act,” winner of the 2022 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction, and the co-author of “The World Only Spins Forward: The Ascent of Angels in America,” which NPR named one of the best books of 2018. His writing has appeared in “New York magazine”, Slate, The Guardian, American Theatre, and other publications. He is the co-host of Slate’s “Working” podcast, and previously hosted “Lend Me Your Ears,” a podcast about Shakespeare and politics.
