Kiese Laymon

April 21, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

PART OF THE 2018 TULSA LITFEST

Kiese Laymon is widely considered one of America’s most exciting young essayists. Laymon is best-known for his essay collection “How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America,” which was named one of the best books of the year by Buzzfeed, The Believer, Salon, Guernica, and more.

Hailed as “a sharply original and supremely powerful voice, an angry yet oddly poetic voice,” Laymon’s essays and fiction speak to the precariousness of black life, and the complexities of race, sexuality, and gender, in a country still haunted by violence.

Laymon currently serves as Professor of English and African American Studies at the University of Mississippi and is a graduate of the MFA program at Indiana University.

The event is free and open to the public. Copies of “How to Slowly Kill Yourself and Others in America” will be for sale.
