August 1, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Co-Presented by Oklahoma Policy Institute.

The masterful and poignant story of three African-American families who journeyed west after emancipation, by award-winning scholar and descendant of the migrants, Kendra Field. Field’s ancestors arrived in Indian Territory in the decades before Oklahoma statehood, where they became part of a complex and compelling dynamic of cultural exchange and conflict that has shaped our state and the nation ever since.

Kendra will be in conversation with local author and attorney, Hannibal Johnson.

Kendra Field is assistant professor of history and director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at Tufts University.
