Native Tulsan Roger Thompson is back in the 918 to discuss his new book, “No Word for Wilderness: Italy’s Grizzlies and the Race to Save the Rarest Bears on Earth”.
Italian brown bears have evolved alongside people, growing with communities over a millennia, and thus have adapted to life with man — and locals in Italy have adapted to the bears as well. The result is a remarkably symbiotic and peaceful relationship — a thousand years and no attacks.
Dr. Thompson is an Associate Professor and Director of the Writing Program at Stony Brook University on Long Island. He is a graduate of Memorial High School in Tulsa and his work has appeared in The Atlantic, Ozy and the New York Times.
The event is free an open to the public. Copies of No Word for Wilderness will be for sale and Dr. Thompson will sign books after his presentation.
