Sherri Coale

For 25 years Sherri Coale roamed the sideline at the University of Oklahoma as the architect and head coach of one of the most respected women’s basketball programs in the country. In 2021, Coale stepped away from her collegiate coaching career to devote time to her lifelong passion for writing. In her first book, Rooted to Rise…The Redwood Legacies of Life-Anchoring People, she shares some of the indelible lessons she’s learned from many of the remarkable connections in her life.

The stories found in Rooted to Rise are about fighting for what you believe in and not falling for what you don’t. They are about situations and circumstances, mountains and hurdles, celebrations and victory dances. They are about love and loss and finding the good in the midst of hard things. But mostly, Coale’s stories are about what the world and the people in it can teach us if we’re willing to let it.

Sherri Coale’s numbers as a coach speak for themselves. She led her Oklahoma program to three Final Fours, six Big 12 conference championships, four Big 12 conference tournament titles, and 19 straight NCAA appearances. Before coaching at Oklahoma, she led Norman High School to two state championships. Coale is a member of multiple Halls of Fame including the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
