Ward Schumaker

March 28, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join acclaimed artist Ward Schumaker for a presentation of one artist’s love for books and his rocky road to producing them, from being threatened with jail for producing what the wife of the governor of Nebraska called “the dirtiest thing you’ve ever seen,” to designing for Snoopy and Peanuts and illustrating Gertrude Stein.
Ward is best known for his one-of-a-kind hand-painted books. Now Chronicle Books has made his book of paintings called Hate Is What We Need available to the public.
In this clothbound, hardcover volume, Schumaker transforms the egregious utterances of the 45th president of the United States of America into provocative text-based paintings. Translating the politics of our moment into visceral works of art, Schumaker offers an alternative to the desensitizing barrage of the news media.
